Journal 4 :)
Question 1: My present thoughts determine my future. What am I thinking about today that will have a positive impact on my future?
Today I have been researching the places that I would like to go my externship for the Medical Assisting program. It has been very encouraging to find out how many different places I can do it in. This experience has been so exciting so far and I can not wait until I start my classes on Medical Assisting. My family has been a great support in my decision to go back to school and it has made it so much easier to do so because of that. By having such a positive experience this far has allowed me to have dreams about this career and what my life will be like when I am finished. All the positive thinks has a great impact on my future and what I can do with the career that I have chosen.
Question 2: Explain what academic success looks and feels like for you.
So far I have done well throughout this course. What academic success looks like to me is when I make it to Presidents Honor Roll. That has been a goal of mine since before I started this course and was going through the enrollment process. I want to be able to tell and show others that may not be so sure about going back to school after a family or at my age what a person can achieve if their mind is set on something. I wan to be able to put on a job application my achievements, it means a lot to me about how a person views my abilities when applying for a position. My overall feeling is to some it up SUCCESS!! I set a goal achieved it to the best of my abilities, have a career, can provide for my family and most importantly be a positive influence to my children about continuing their education after high school.
Question 3: As I work towards my goals, what attitudes, beliefs, and self-talk do I need when I am faced with a challenge or an obstacle?
Positivity and to have clear goals set for myself will be the push that I need when I am struck with a challenge. I will always remind myself why I am doing what I am doing. I need to tell myself I can do it not matter what it might be or how hard I have to work. A person that works hard for things is determined, confident, strong willed and focused on what they want out of it. I believe that I can do it, so I will. I have said it before but if a person does not succeed at a task, they need to look at it and figure out an alternate way of thinking, there is not only one answer to things. Being challenged is my strength not a weakness. I am open to challenges each and everyday, I have to be I am a mom who has a full time job, goes to school, huge parent volunteer and has 3 children. There is not a fail option in my book. This course has done everything for me and re-assured me about the beliefs I had and that I am doing the right things for the right reasons.

Question 1: What activities am I currently avoiding because they are out of my comfort zone?
Currently I'm not really avoiding any activities; however, for longer then I can remember I use to always avoid trying new foods. Is funny as it sounds I used to eat all the same foods no matter if I ate at home or went out to dinner. Here lately I have been eating out more since I have not had much time between work, the kids activities and school. So far I have had good experiences trying new things. My husband say " he is glad I'm changing it up lately." LOL. I have a couple new favorite restaurants to say the least. I feel that avoiding something because it may be out of a persons comfort zone is not allowing personal growth. Even though I do not currently have activities that I'm avoiding, I am sure at some point in the future something will come up. I am going to ensure that I always keep an open mind and except change when necessary.
Question 2: Discuss 3 things that have gone well in my life which I am proud.
First off I want to talk of my greatest achievement which is the three beautiful children I had. They are the reason I work as hard as I do to provide for them each and everyday. Its not easy let me tell you, but I would not change it for anything in this world. Each one of my kids test me almost daily...One day is smooth sailing and the next I feel I want to pull my hair out. I'm sure lots of you can relate! Secondly, I want to talk about school. For the most part I have always been an over achiever and some what OCD about things. I took and continue to take a lot of pride in school and the effort I put in it. I hold myself to very high standards and will not allow myself to fail or even slack. Lastly, I moved from California to Missouri 5 years ago and with out doing that I would not be where I am today and I'm very grateful to all who has helped my family along the way. I own my own home before I'm thirty, I don't have to worry about the outside environment my kids grow up in or the school they go to. Also, I have good friends and a good job. What more could I ask for? Nothing but health, love and our future.
Question 3: Where have I already achieved a goal and need to set a new one?
I have already achieved the goal of going back to school. I went back and forth on this subject for some time now; additionally, I doubted myself and sometimes felt as if I could not do it or that I've been out of school for so long that I would loose focus and especially do to it being an online classroom. i am very proud of myself so far. I have done way better that I thought I would do just starting. This class I'm taking has really helped me focus on goals that I have, the ways I can achieve them and my future and what I want it to look like. I have set the goal to be on Presidents Honor Roll. So far I feel that this is a goal that is highly achievable and I will make it. I continue to look forward to new classes and challenges that come up along the way. I especially am excited about starting my career as a Medical Assistant this next year.

Question 1: How can changing my beliefs about myself and my abilities actually change my performance or my success at school? In what way?
I feel that if I think positive thoughts about something, then positve things will come of it. I am a very upbeat, positive person and I try to look at life in a way that allows me to look at different things that may come up in different ways. For example, if I have a bad experience with something, I like to look at it and think " if i could have done it different, would the end result be the same? " I will apply that to school as well. I feel that if I make the time and put forth 100% effort I can, I will succeed in school and my career. By thinking positive it allows me to be relaxed but focused on whats needed to succeed. If I tell myself I will achieve a goal, then I will. If a person views themself as not good enough then they will always feel the same way, and they more then likely will not do well with a task that is put in front of them. If a student alway is telling themself I cant or feels they are not good enough to achieve something, then a person will have a hard time with success. Changing ones beliefs about them self will give them the opportunity to look at something and instead of putting themself down, look at what could have been done different or what they could have done to better it. Having positive thoughts about going back to school has given me excitement and is driving me to push myself to do well, and achieve the goal I have set and that is to make it into honor roll.
Question 2: What habits or attitudes do I have that have prevented me from being as successful as I know I could be? Where in my life did I believe in myself and it helped me to succeed?

Journal 1:
Question 1- Discuss your primary motivation for going to school.
My primary motivation for going back to school is my family. I want to be able to provide for them no matter what they might need especially as they get older and attend college for themselves. I want for them to be able to take their mom to school on career day, and be proud that she went to college and has a job that is making a difference. I always have had the will to be successful and starting school again makes me feel good about myself and I can not wait to be finished and start my career as a Medical Assistant. Also, by going back to school it allows me to plan for my future finances and allows me not to have to live from paycheck to paycheck. As years go by things get harder and harder and I want a better life for my family and being able to provide for them is only the first step of my plan.
Question 2- What positive beliefs have I “locked on” to about myself that will help me achieve success in school?
